The small town of Riquewihr, located in northeastern France,
is a locale that dates back to the 16th century.
The town holds a castle-turned museum that
contains artifacts and the village is renowned for its wines. France is also home to jewelry brand Georland.
There are many jewelers, including Gurhan Orhan (Turkey),
Jeramie Carter (Australia), and Orlando Orlandini (Italy), who in some way
devote their handmade jewelry designs to the form or essence of a woman.
At nearly sixty years old, French fine jewelry brand, Georland, is full-on in its interpretation
of femininity. Lithe forms of 18-karat
yellow, white and pink gold embody romanticism.
The almost fleeting subtleties of 18-karat gold outlines are
offset by gorgeous pavé sets of sapphires or white diamonds. Items from the brand’s Infinity Collection are the very definition of posh elegance as
intertwining loops weave into breathtaking arabesque designs.
Established by Henri Marteau in 1954, Georland enjoyed auspicious beginnings. In its first four years the company set up a
New York branch office on 5th Avenue.
With its headquarters located in France’s
second arrondissement, known as Place Vendôme, the brand established a
reputation for quality craftsmanship by creating illustrious jewelry
collections for prestigious French jewelry houses. Due to these quiet associations Georland became known as the “discreet
yet renowned brand.”

As a result international orders began pouring in: jewelry
set for a Middle Eastern King featuring rubies, emeralds and brilliant-cut
diamonds; platinum, diamond and sapphire necklace for Princess Diana; and a jewelry
set for Spain’s Queen Sofia.
By the 1990s, under the guidance of Henri Marteau’s sons,
Jean-Gabriel and Stéphane, Georland’s
design and production departments were revamped to further solidify the brand’s
unyielding stance on quality.
“Georland masters
every skill that constitutes fine jewelry making,” says Romain Marteau,
grandson of Henri Marteau who oversees the New York branch. “We start with gouache drawings and use CAD (Computer
Aided Design) in order to give life to our creations and to make each piece
absolutely unique.
Each stage: sketchings, mold making, polishing and stone
settings require the utmost precision.
Gem settings in particular are complicated because Georland’s pieces are extremely delicate.”
In 2011, after two years of reviewing its incredible
inventory, Marteau administrators decided to launch jewelry collections created
by Georland for Georland. The stunning
collections of diamond necklaces, white gold bracelets and gold drop earrings
reflect inspiration from nature to exotic travels.
Romain Marteau felt showcasing the brand’s stunning
inventory was a solid step forward. “Creating
the Georland Private Collections becomes
a self-evident development in our policy of continuity and growth. We strive for perfection and extreme beauty
in our designs--designs that are ultimately feminine and wearable.”
A small selection of items from Georland’s collection is available for purchase at Ylang23.com.
