ELINE VAN DER LAAG

18K White and Yellow Gold Om Ring
Known for bringing great intellectuals to the world, the Dutch city Leiden is also a vibrant place holding annual film and music festivals.

Located in the southern part of the Netherlands, Leiden serves as the site for the twenty-two-year-old “poem wall.”

The wall lists an international array of poetry.  Netherlands is also home to featured jewelry designer Eline van derLaag.

If my memory serves me van der Laag is the first Dutch jeweler featured here who does not create abstract contemporary art jewelry.

However, her stunning, modern fine jewelry brand, MOYA (pronounced moi-ja), of sterling silver, 18-karat gold and platinum include elements of surprise.

Hers is a fantastic aesthetic where classic style and contemporary art collides producing necklaces, bracelets, and cocktail rings that are inventive and fashionable.

Influenced by architecture, geometry and nature she sculpts golden concaves that hold white or Tahitian pearls alongside stacked brick and hinged ruler patterns.

The jeweler’s 18-karat gold Carousel Ring is a showstopper that highlights what appears to be one stocky band placed inside a slightly larger band. Both bands are embraced by a slightly asymmetrical, thinner band of diamonds!  And get this, the diamonds rotate around the ring!

A gold and silversmith since 1999, van der Laag studied, precise design approach has garnered her acclaim from many including musicians Jill Scott and Stevie Wonder.

Her 12-year-old brand is definitely a creative oasis set apart from a sea of sameness that the jewelry world can sometimes be.
