EKATERINA POKROVSKAYA

18K Gold Infinity Cocktail Ring
with  Quartz and Cubic Zirconia
The 18th century Russian structure Catherine Palace is a visual feast for the eyes.

Ordered for construction by Empress Catherine I, its exterior “contains over 100 kg of gold” while its interior boasts Hanging Gardens, Neo-Palladian accents and the ethereal Hall of Lights.

Russia is also the birthplace to featured jewelry designer Ekaterina Pokrovskaya.

As I have often said a lot of classically styled jewelry from independent designer jewelry brands is rather homogenous.

Pokrovskaya’s elegant, high-end jewelry, though understated, possesses a design personality sparked by universal symbols and astronomy.

Her 18-karat gold Solar Orbit Ring—with its bold, thick shank—highlights a “floating” stone setting in which a single cabochon of citrine seems to levitate.

Her delicate earrings Amazon Treasures features Brazilian tourmaline gemstones and is the jeweler’s pared down take on the chandelier style.

For me her stunning Infinity Ring is the showstopper!  I am not a fan of clear/white stones.  I should say that I do not like to see them overly faceted.   I think facets actually hide a white stone’s natural beauty.

Pokrovskaya understands that philosophy as she showcases a delicately faceted, chunky clear quartz on an 18-karat gold throne-like setting and shank.  The quartz is overlaid--but not hidden—with a dainty infinity symbol.  Gor-geous!

The Brazil-based jeweler began a career in trinket design after journeying to the country with her mother. “My mother is a technical trainer of Russia’s synchronized swimming team.  I always traveled with her.

She wanted me to work with her,” recalls the working mom.  “Because of her work we came to Rio de Janeiro.  I fell in love with Brazil and I decided to stay.”

After working 10 years in the “sales department of an international jewelry company” she wanted to try her hand at creating.  Her love of Brazilian gemstones and good, old-fashioned determination took her into a world of gleam and shimmer.

“I learned all I could about gemstones and found inspiration everywhere.  I decided to open my own atelier.  I have always loved jewelry but have never had enough money to afford any precious stones.  I love designing jewelry and I am so happy for it.”

2014 Jewelry Trend AlertChandelier earrings were on the runways of Olivier Rousteing.

Pokrovskaya’s minimalistic take on this style is firmly on the year’s style trends as well as vividly colored and muted gemstones.
