With its sunny climate, waterways and beaches the Gold Coast
has become one of Australia’s best known tourist destinations. Australia is also home to Melissa Harris.
Based in Sydney, Australia Harris has been crafting jewelry
for twenty-three years and loves every minute.
Her gorgeous 18-karat gold rings--her favorite item to create--are
organic and intricately designed; fanciful and lyrical like something out of a
storybook.
She then changes gear with pared down silhouettes in the
form of heart jewelry including rings and pendants; sleek wishbone bangle
bracelets; and lithe gemstone necklaces cultivated from briolette cut
aquamarine beads that round out her timeless high-end jewelry collections.
“Jewelry design has been a lifelong passion,” she confides,
“Although I took short, intensive jewelry making courses at the Barnsdall Art Center in Los Angeles, California, I am
largely self-taught. Language, symbolism
and typography were early sources of inspiration and it helped to develop my
signature style.”
The beauty of nature also provides inspiration to the
jeweler as seen in her 18-karat white gold Crista
Ring that features a princess cut diamond; her twig textured Twiggy Rings in 9-karat yellow gold; and
her delicate sterling silver and gold Dragonfly
Bracelet.

“When I was a little girl I was convinced there were fairies
at the bottom of my grandparents’ garden.
My Dragonfly Bracelet is in
homage to that garden,” she says.
“For my custom jewelry I strive to be organic and bring an
intuitive sense of what works for my clients.
I believe jewelry is an emotional bookmark for all the occasions,
celebrations and moments in our lives. A
treasured piece of jewelry has relevance and meaning for a lifetime.”
Harris’ idiosyncratic and trendy designs have been featured
in numerous magazine editorials including the L.A. Times Magazine, Vogue
Australia, InStyle, and Harper’s Bazaar.
