LEYLA ABDOLLAHI

18K Yellow Gold Ianthe Ring with Amethyst,
Green and Purple Sapphires
Though the ancient Iranian city Persepolis stands in ruins, the city’s greatness is still palpable.

Sites like the Gate of All Nations and the Tomb of the Kings are awe-inspiring as they represent the country’s legendary art and architecture.

Iran is also home to featured jewelry designer Leyla Abdollahi.

Abdollahi is one jeweler who definitely knows how to keep her designs from fading into a sea of oversaturation.  Her classically styled statement pieces are poetic, lavish and a little dramatic.

Formed with 18-karat white and yellow gold, platinum, and sterling silver  Abdollahi’s aesthetic is a mixture of regal refinement and avant-garde predilections.  Outlines are sinuous, sculptural encompassing a mystical sense of femininity.

In fact, a number of her ring designs are named for sea goddesses.  These particular rings, along with some earring designs, are inspired by the strange, ephemeral sea creatures in their delicate curvatures.

Speaking of rings, Abdollahi selects gemstones of breathtaking colors.  The beautiful dark violet amethyst stone setting of her Ianthe Ring and the pale pink rose quartz for her Phaino Ring are absolutely stunning!

The graduate of London’s Central Saint Martins began developing her jewelry line in 2011 while also serving as the jewelry editor of Urban Life Magazine.  With a background in fine arts, Abdollahi brings arresting and complex details to her collections while also maintaining a solid level of elegance.

For two consecutive years (in 2011 and 2012) Professional Jeweller has placed her on its Hot 100 List.  She was also the recipient of the 2011 Lonmin Design Innovation Award.  “I am not afraid to push boundaries, explore materials or challenge conventions,” explains the London-based jeweler.

“Myth, nature and history are always themes of my collections.  My pieces provoke the kind of visual pleasure that captures attention.  The pieces reflect emotion, passion and desire.  I start with a concept that then blossoms into an elegant ornament.”
