ELSA SARANTIDOU | ELSA ART

18K Pink Gold Vermeil Destiny Leaf
Texture Bracelet with Brandy Diamonds
Known for its beaches and constant sunshine Greece’s Rhodes Island is the largest island in the country.

Visitors flock to its beaches Faliraki, Lindos or Ladiko where they engage in either snorkeling; diving or surfing.

Greece is also the ancestral home to featured jewelry designer Elsa Sarantidou.

I love the crisp, uncluttered look of a contemporary piece of jewelry.

For me, modern or contemporary jewelry designs like items created by American jewelry designer Carolyn Bensinger or Canadian Janis Kerman fall squarely between conventional classic styles and statement jewelry.

Modern jewelry design is usually a visual that blends the best aspect of classic and statement making that results in fashion standouts without overwhelming the wearer.

A one-time apprentice to contemporary jewelry artist Joel Degen, Sarantidou’s 18-karat gold vermeil, and black rhodium plated handmade jewelry brand, Elsa Artexemplifies classic style with great panache.

Outlines are part sculptural and part Art Deco.  Wrap styles are highlighted in sleek cuff bracelet and ring designs.  A play of metal colors in yellow and pink gold, and black rhodium provide mood: warmth, capriciousness and sexiness.

Yet what appears to be photoengraving is the signature detail of Sarantidou’s gorgeous jewelry creations.  Her collections Leaves and Butterflies, Geometry, Oriental, and Knit and Weave feature fabulously distinctive surface details that are minimally offset by an array of tiny, multi-colored diamonds.

Based in England she was schooled at London’s Kensington and Chelsea College, and London Guildhall University, the trained silversmith has a repertoire of skills including ceramics, sculpture and stained glass.

She has collaborated with a number of London-based galleries as well as galleries in Italy (Alternative Gallery), and Spain (Gallery La Basilica).  Her work has also been honored by the British Jewellers Association, and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths from which she received awards.

“My passion for jewelry was stimulated by my need to create something new and different led me into this adventurous journey of forms and shapes.  The definition and aesthetic power of lines together with the uniqueness of the designs and the materials create timeless pieces of art.”

2015 Jewelry Trend AlertVintage-inspired jewelry is a key trend for the New Year and Sarantidou’s fashion-ready collections align with Art Deco influences.

Not to be outdone colored diamonds are making a splash this year, and Sarantidou implements blue, brandy colored, and yellow diamonds in her chic creations.
