Natural Lime Green Sea Glass Earrings with Swarovski Crystals and Silver |
Populated by only 22,000 residents Scotland’s Shetland Islands is a vision of
untouched, natural beauty. The lush
coastline is ripe with ancient cultures.
The islands’ museums harbor remnants of the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron
ages as well as that of Vikings.
Scotland is also the birthplace of featured jewelry designer Jane Cormack.
Cormack has a definite point of view. Translucent sea glass and seed pods are
components of earrings and necklaces.
She also combines Paua shells and vintage jewelry parts to reflect her
unique vision. When a designer has
strength of personality like this it translate to the jewelry.
None of Cormack’s design ideas are conventional. There is always some unexpected element. Her quirky, oceanic handmade jewelry is a mix
of relaxed casual and boho chic. Free
form ring shanks are carved from natural sea shells and accented with a single,
semi-precious gemstone or pearl.
Raw cut sea glass overlaid with a simple crochet chain of
sterling silver composes lovely bracelets.
Sphinx emblems from a vintage Egyptian-themed bracelet are recycled to
produce dangle earrings.

“I used to write poetry and rap songs when I was twelve
years old,” recalls the graduate of Robert Gordon’s University, Grays School of
Art.
“I had ambitions to be a songwriter but I ended up studying
3D design. I earned my BA Honors degree
in Design and Craft. When I was ready I
began my design business with the sponsorship and aid of the Prince’s ScottishYouth Business Trust.
I am inspired by people that are not afraid to be who they
are and express their inner truths in whatever form they love.”

2014 Jewelry Trend Alert: The
muted colors of sea shells, rose quartz, pearls and sea glass, along with the
allure of dangle earrings, makes Cormack dead-on for the year’s style trends.
