LEXI LU JEWELRY

Initially panned for its gloomy surroundings, the Adventure Aquarium, located in Camden, New Jersey, presently houses the country’s third largest ocean tank and boasts hands-on exhibits allowing visitors to touch live lobsters, shrimp, and moon jellies. New Jersey is also the home base for jewelry brand Lexi Lu Jewelry.

Though they differ in their personal styles, sisters Allison Roden and Melissa Mastrolia share a common interest: jewelry.

Named for Roden’s daughter, Alexandra Luisa, the Lexi Lu Jewelry brand is a blend of Roden’s glamorous flair and Mastrolia’s casual vibe producing jewelry that is modern, sophisticated, and chic.  The jewelry is the ultimate trifecta: it is great looking; it complements many personal styles; and is also affordable.

Officially launched in 2002, Lexi Lu Jewelry’s clean lines paired with pops of sparkly color are central to the brand’s style.

Slender, hammered outlines of shiny metals—characterized by the brand’s signature Wonder Hoop Earrings—draping gold chain necklaces; and sterling silver multi-hoop earrings, with charm or Swarovski crystal inserts, are just a sampling of the sisters’ streamlined bijouterie.

The brand’s gemstone earrings are standouts highlighting finely tweaked facets of bronze, grey, ivory and pink pearls, blue and smoky quartz, and black onyx. I so like the sisters’ use of antique gold chains, and pearl strands that provide the pieces with a subtle, vintage quality.

Some of my favorite pieces are the cluster rings that glow with the aura of Old Hollywood glamour displaying bold settings of turquoise, pearls, rose quartz and tiger’s eye.

“Allison and I have been creative all our lives. We started creating jewelry in Charleston, South Carolina and the area is big on supporting the arts so it was easy to get started,” says Mastrolia.

“When Katharine McPhee of American Idol wore our pieces during her performances, it was a big turning point for our company. Jordin Sparks also became a fan of our jewelry, which eventually led to landing retailer Henri Bendel.”
