RUTH BALL

Sterling Silver and Enamel
Shoreline Pendant Necklace with Diamonds
A one-time “sleepy fishing village” Brighton, England is the place to be.  The pebble beach locale is known for its spring festivals, unique shopping goods and spectacular sunsets.  England is also home to featured jewelry designer Ruth Ball.

A strong presence or personality does not have to be larger-than-life.  In the case of jewelry design personality can be subtle in tone yet stunning in its beauty.

Ball’s enamel and metal handmade, modern jewelry is simple and clean yet full of rich details and beautiful colors.

Drawing inspiration from the myriad forms and hues of nature, there is an almost primeval sense to her aesthetic.  In some ways her straightforward style is reminiscent of pictographs.

Her First Snow Collection highlights sterling silver, gold foil and the beautiful soft colored enamel blurring from white to green to light blue and red.

The award-winning jeweler received her Bachelor of Arts in Jewelry Design from Middlesex University, and she is a member of the British Society of Enamellers.  Ball also takes time to teach others about enameling techniques that include cloisonné and champlevé.

“I am captivated by the alchemy of color and versatility of enamel.  My collections are influenced by Klimt paintings, beachcombing, and miniature organisms,” she says.

“I believe jewelry has many roles.  To me one of the main functions I find important is the fact that jewelry has the power to embody sentiment.

I interpret natural forms and colors linked to the seasons, aerial perspective of landscapes in early winter or simple mark making like xoxo.

My aesthetic is very art based.  I take a painterly approach to enameling underpins which I think provides an elegant sense of beauty to my work.”
